I LOVE YOU GUYS

Just wanted to put that out there, for my US friends. I feel for you, I'm along on this ride with you, even if I'm not in your country. I will do what I can to support you and I will keep posting here so this community stays strong, so you have a place to retreat to, to spread information through, and to feel as safe as you can.
I can't get to a march, but I've got my pussyhat made and ready to wear: Pussyhat Project.

[Pink hat with cat ears and a lurid pink brim]
Omg, the ears just formed themselves! It was like magic. I know how ears are formed! And since there's nothing in the slightest that I could have done to prevent Trumputin from being elected, I will take a small pleasure in finding something I can use that hideous, hideous pink yarn for the brim. It is truly repulsive and could not have been used for anything other than to protest someone of his calibre. What the actual hell was I thinking when I bought it? (There is no rational answer to this question.)

Day Twelve at
snowflake_challenge was to nominate fannish communities:
In your own space, post a rec for fannish spaces and resources - comms, challenges, twitters, tumblrs, etc. Tell us about where you hang out. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I wasn't doing the challenge this year, but I thought I'd link to Day Twelve for others who weren't following it or who are new to Dreamwidth, because there are a lot of good comms linked there.

A bunch of Captive Prince vids. I DID NOT REALISE THIS WAS A THING. I DID NOT. OMG. (Also vids for The Raven Boys, which I haven't read, but how much do I love that fandom just goes and makes vids for things with no visual canon? THIS MUCH.)
- Rogue swan’s reign of terror leaves lake’s model boaters in a fowl mood.
This motherfucking swan is smashing up motherfucking boats. I think we found Voltswan's nemesis! (Voltswan is the name we have given to a local GI-FUCKING-NORMOUS swan that may also be made up of five swans.)
- Early breaking meme for 2017: I LIK THE BREAD, from Health Inspectors of Reddit, what's the worst violation you've ever seen?:
My stepdad used to be a baker in an authentic recreation of an 18th century New French fortress. Because they sell bread to the public, the health inspector came by, and she was ripping into my stepdad for violations like the stonework walls, the doorless entranceways, or the lack of a mosquito zapper. He pointed out that they were following the highest standards except for things that would destroy the authenticity of this 18th-century bakery. The health inspector relented and agreed to give him a pass after verifying the food storage area was secure. They went to the shed, which was a doorless building attached to the bakery. As the health inspector went in, there happened to be an escaped cow licking all of the loaves. My stepdad could only say, "Honestly, this never happens." They passed the health inspection.
tl;dr: Health inspector witnesses escaped farm animal licking all the bread in a bakery, passes health inspection anyway

Date: 2017-01-22 12:00 am (UTC)Thanks for the sympathy. *sigh* I've been increasingly disappointed in America since the Bush administration. (The second one, rather.) A lot of great stuff happened under Obama (Health Care Reform! Marriage Equality!), but the backlash against women, LGBT people, non-white people, non-Christians, has gotten louder and uglier at a steady rate since the early 2000s. This feels creepily inevitable. BUT I have hope that since the gloves have come off on both sides, we might not backslide too much before making more progress.

I keep telling myself that there'd be no backlash if we weren't getting somewhere, but it gets hard to stay positive - I worry that my country will follow the US policy wise (there's certainly already a strident and vocal political side that couldn't be more pleased about Trump.) And we don't have marriage equality here at all - I am going to celebrate my twentieth anniversary of not being married this year. I don't want to be those cute little old ladies who get married in their sixties finally, but I think it might happen that way. At least we'll be cute.

Date: 2017-01-22 07:40 am (UTC)Oh wow, It didn't even occur to me to even look for Captive Prince fanvids. And they're so cleverly done!
I've been reading that cow poem here and there but never quite worked out what it was all about. That story is perfect.

Date: 2017-01-25 04:45 am (UTC)Right? I love how cleverly they've been snipped from various fandoms, and put together so freaking well. Fandom is brilliant
The cow poem is already my fave meme of the year, to be honest. So full of joy and naughtiness.

I know right? I wasn't going to like the show, from the moment the showrunner said that John wasn't bisexual, but Matt Ryan was so into it, and so touchy-feely with all his male counterparts, that I forgave and learned to love. I'm glad he's coming along to the animation, and I love that he loves the character enough to do that.
