Notes: Happy birthday [personal profile] lilacsigil! I hope you have an awesome day! (You know how we always say "I wrote this at 2am on a sugar high!" and laugh hysterically? Um. *cringes*)

Penelope Garcia, you're on the Global Frequency. )
st_aurafina: Rainbow DNA (Ianto OMG!)
This weekend [livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil and I gave our creativity a kick in the pants. We made up our own drabble prompt table with words randomly picked using dice and a dictionary, and matched them up randomly with characters from many fandoms, some that we know well, and others that we wish we wrote more for. There are twenty words and twenty characters shared between the two of us. I feel rebooted.

So ten ficlets in a range of fandoms. Spoiler warnings for: Veronica Mars S3, Supernatural S2, American Gods and Torchwood. Nothing rated over PG.

Blindness - Low Key Lyesmith (American Gods) )

Foxglove - Joyce Summers (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) )

Hybrid - John Constantine (Hellblazer) )

Island - Henry McCoy (X-Men) )

Iron - Matthew Murdock (Daredevil) )

Saturn - Ellen Harvelle (Supernatural) )

Rising - Ianto Jones (Torchwood) )

Stretch - Keith Mars (Veronica Mars) )

Unite - Miranda Zero (Global Frequency) )

Marry – Padmé Naberrie (Star Wars) )

Title: Ten Things You May Not Know About Miranda Zero
Fandom: Global Frequency (comic by Warren Ellis)
Characters: Miranda Zero
Words: 526
Rating: G
Notes: Firstly, because I always forget to say this, and have to add it in later, [livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil beta read this for me, while making cake.

Secondly, here's a bit about Global Frequency, because apparently it's a small and obscure fandom, which is sad, because it's a great premise to work with. Global Frequency was a set of twelve stand-alone stories set inside an aid organisation called the Global Frequency, run by the enigmatic and indestructible Miranda Zero. Wikipedia classifies it as "rescue fiction".

[livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil has written two Global Frequency stories for [livejournal.com profile] comica_obscura, both featuring Aleph, the punk dispatch queen who co-ordinates the rescue operations that Miranda Zero hunts out. Check them out here: Babe in Toyland, a series of vignettes about Aleph and Saltwater, which is a classic rescue mission type story.

I know the meme is for twenty things, but Miranda Zero is uncomfortable with people knowing so many things about her. )

It's been unspeakably warm the last few days, and my allergies are going wild already. *dreads spring*

On the positive side, it's cold and rainy today, and [livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil made an orange poppyseed cake. I have coffee, cake and cuddly cats. It doesn't get much better.

I'm thinking about signing up for this multi-fandom Halloween ficathon, which looks really relaxed. I want to get my [livejournal.com profile] 1602ficathon fic under control, and my [livejournal.com profile] xmmficathon story properly birthed before I sign up, but sign-ups don't close until September 12th. [livejournal.com profile] lilacsigil says she won't beta a zombie fic (she's still recovering from 28 Days Later), so I'm trying to not think about zombies. It doesn't work - all I'm getting is zombie plot ideas.

We downloaded the Global Frequency pilot and watched it on Thursday night. It was amazing, really beautiful and grungy-looking, reminded me of the Hellblazer covers when Warren Ellis was writing. It was a great adaptation of the GF comic, and Michelle Forbes as Miranda Zero was brain-splittingly amazing. I think I'm in love with Miranda Zero. Also, I can't believe that I could love a show that was even more doomed than Firefly. Firefly had one season and a movie. Global Frequency never even got picked up. *weeps*

So last night, I had a dream about how Emma Frost and Miranda Zero had to escape from zombies, and hide out on a tropical island. Emma was having a shower. My brain is awesome that way.
